The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of candidates who sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for private candidates. In a statement, the Council said the results are available on its official website for candidates who wish to access them online. “A total of 2,987 candidates, comprising 1,618 males and 1,369 females from all the regions of the country, entered for the private examination,” the statement said.
The examination was conducted at centres in selected regional capitals across the country, with 101 candidates reported absent. On examination malpractice, WAEC said: “The results of nine candidates have been withheld for further scrutiny due to suspected collusion detected during the marking exercise.” The Council directed candidates whose results have been withheld to visit its irregularities and investigations platform and click on the “withheld/cancelled” button on the homepage.
According to WAEC, the platform will redirect affected candidates to the irregularity and investigations page, where they will find the reasons for the withholding of their results. “The candidates will receive information on the next line of action,” the Council added. WAEC expressed appreciation to all stakeholders who contributed to the successful conduct of the examination and the release of the results. “The Council is grateful to all who in diverse ways helped in the successful conduct of the examination and release of results,” said John K. Kapi, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC.
