Mobile phone users in Ghana can now take control of unwanted subscriptions that often lead to unexpected deductions from their airtime or mobile money accounts. The country’s three major networks—MTN Ghana, Telecel, and AirtelTigo—have provided short codes that enable customers to check and cancel active subscriptions.
For MTN subscribers, the process involves dialling *175# and navigating the menu to identify active subscriptions. Customers can then select and cancel any subscriptions they no longer wish to maintain. MTN also offers the option to cancel multiple subscriptions at once.
Telecel users can dial *463# to access the Vodafone Content Manager. By selecting option one, they can view all active subscriptions and proceed to cancel each one individually, following the on-screen instructions. AirtelTigo users are advised to dial *100# to view their subscriptions and unsubscribe from them.
Alternatively, customers can send “STOP” to 2510 for voice content services or follow specific instructions linked to individual shortcodes provided by the network. In addition to network-billed services, customers who signed up for subscriptions through apps, such as music or streaming platforms, can also cancel them directly. On Android devices, this can be done via the Google Play Store.
Users should select their profile icon, navigate to “Payments & Subscriptions,” tap on “Subscriptions,” and cancel the unwanted service. Industry watchers have welcomed the simplified processes as a step towards curbing complaints from customers over unauthorised deductions.
