Stay indoors, avoid floodwaters — Presidency

The Presidency has urged residents in flood‑hit areas to stay alert and strictly follow safety guidelines as heavy rains continue to cause flooding across parts of the country. In a public advisory issued Monday, officials called on those already in safe locations to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary movement until conditions improve. The statement warned against crossing flooded roads on foot or by vehicle, stressing the grave risk to life.

Residents whose homes are inundated were advised to move immediately to higher ground and dial 112 for emergency assistance. Motorists were cautioned to avoid flood‑prone routes such as the Mallam–Kasoa Road, Alajo, and Graphic Road, and to turn back if confronted with floodwaters rather than attempt to drive through.

The advisory also urged the public to unplug electrical appliances and steer clear of poles, transformers, and fallen power lines to reduce the danger of electrocution. “The Presidency urges all residents in affected areas to remain vigilant and strictly adhere to safety advisories as heavy rainfall continues to cause flooding in parts of the country,” the statement said.

It added that the safety of the public remains paramount and encouraged residents to continue following official updates and emergency directives as authorities monitor the evolving weather situation.
