Six new Mpox cases confirmed, Ghana’s total now 85

Six additional cases of Mpox have been confirmed in Ghana, bringing the total number of recorded infections to 85, according to the Ghana Health Service (GHS). The announcement was made on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, in a public health update shared on the Facebook page of the GHS.

This follows a recent surge in infections, with 34 new cases reported earlier in the week across 10 regions. The GHS has called for early reporting of symptoms and advised the public to remain alert, especially in areas where infections have been recorded. Mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, is a viral disease that presents with symptoms such as fever, rash, headache, muscle pain and swollen lymph nodes.

The virus spreads through close contact with infected persons or contaminated surfaces and materials. The GHS has urged individuals who experience any of these symptoms to report to the nearest health facility without delay. Health officials say contact tracing is underway and surveillance has been increased in affected areas. Patients with active symptoms are being monitored closely to prevent further spread.

The Service has reminded the public to avoid direct contact with anyone showing signs of illness and to observe hygiene measures, particularly handwashing, as a preventive step. According to the GHS, the situation remains under control, and all necessary steps are being taken to contain the virus.
