The Government has not yet formally adopted the revised curriculum for Kindergarten through Primary Six developed by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA). Last month, NaCCA submitted the proposed curriculum to the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, for review and input from the Ghana Education Service (GES).
Speaking at the 73rd anniversary celebration of Great Apam Senior High School in the Central Region, the Minister explained that the GES is currently examining the proposal. Once the review is complete, the curriculum will be forwarded to Cabinet for approval before formal adoption and implementation.
The revised curriculum aims to reposition basic education by emphasising moral values, problem‑solving, critical thinking, analytical skills, and character development. It also introduces emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), electronics, and digital learning at the foundational level.
According to the Minister, these changes are designed to equip Ghanaian children with the knowledge, creativity, skills, and values required to succeed in today’s world and remain competitive globally. At the same event, the Minister announced plans to upgrade Great Apam Senior High School from Category B to Category A.
The school is expected to benefit from infrastructure expansion, renovation and other development interventions under the Transformative Secondary Education for Access, Results and Relevance for Jobs (STARR-J) project. Government will also work towards completing abandoned GETFund projects at the school to improve facilities for teaching and learning.
In addition, the Minister announced plans to provide a school bus to Great Apam SHS to support the school’s transportation needs. The interventions form part of the Government’s broader efforts to improve infrastructure, expand access to quality secondary education and create conducive learning environments for students across the country.
