Seven women arrested for possessing palm oil mixed with Sudan dye

Seven women have been arrested in Akyem Maase, located in the Eastern Region, for allegedly possessing palm oil mixed with a potentially harmful industrial dye. The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) reports that this substance, known as Sudan dye, is sometimes added to palm oil to enhance its red colour, making it more appealing to consumers. However, the FDA warns that consuming this dye can increase the risk of cancer and related diseases.

These arrests are part of an effort to combat the sale of adulterated food products. The seven suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue. The FDA has urged the public to exercise caution when purchasing palm oil and to report any suspicious products, emphasising that food safety is a priority for public health.
