The Court of Appeal is scheduled to deliver its ruling today, Wednesday, August 12, 2026, on an application by the Attorney-General seeking a stay of execution of its earlier decision acquitting and discharging former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu. In July 2026, the Court of Appeal overturned the 10-year custodial sentence imposed on her, holding that the prosecution had failed to substantiate the charges.
Sedina had originally been convicted in April 2024 by an Accra High Court on 78 counts—including stealing, causing financial loss to the state, and money laundering—and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour. Following her acquittal, the Attorney-General petitioned the Court of Appeal to suspend the enforcement of its judgment pending the outcome of the State’s appeal.
The State argues that allowing the acquittal to take immediate effect could create an opportunity for Mrs Tamakloe-Attionu to leave the jurisdiction, potentially making it difficult to pursue the appeal. The Attorney-General is therefore asking the Court to suspend the acquittal ruling until the further appeal is determined by the Supreme Court.
The Court of Appeal’s ruling today is expected to clarify whether the acquittal and discharge will take immediate effect or remain suspended while the State pursues its appeal.
