The Ghana Scholarships Authority has announced that the government has released funds for the first quarter to the Ghana High Commission in the United Kingdom. This funding aims to begin the payment of outstanding scholarship arrears owed to Ghanaian students. According to the Authority, this intervention is part of the efforts to resolve delays in the payment of stipends and tuition fees, which have affected numerous Ghanaian beneficiaries studying at various institutions across the UK.
In a statement issued on Thursday, April 16, and signed by the Director-General of the Ghana Scholarships Authority, Alex Kwaku Asafo-Agyei, the Authority acknowledged the concerns raised by affected students. They expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by the delays and assured that steps are being taken to restore normal payment schedules.
The released funds are intended to cover the financial obligations of beneficiaries and provide relief to students, ensuring continuity in their academic programs. The Authority further noted that the disbursed funds will undergo the necessary administrative and public financial management processes before payments are credited to students’ accounts in the shortest possible time.
Government, it said, remains committed to supporting the welfare of Ghanaian students abroad and is working with relevant stakeholders to ensure prompt processing of all outstanding payments while preventing similar delays in the future. The Ghana Scholarships Authority also reiterated its commitment to strengthening internal systems to improve efficiency in scholarship administration and ensure timely release of funds going forward. It urged beneficiaries to remain calm and continue with their studies as efforts continue to resolve all outstanding obligations.
