Prez to recommission AMERI power plants commissioned under Mahama – John Jinapor

John Abdulai Jinapor, the Ranking Member of the Mines and Energy Committee of Parliament and MP for the Yapei-Kusawgu constituency has declared that the NDC will not tolerate any further attempts by the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government to rename projects that were commissioned under former President John Dramani Mahama.

Mr. Jinapor recently made a statement in response to reports that the government is planning to commission the Kumasi 1 Thermal Power Plant, also known as K1TPP. The plant is believed to consist of six units of the 10-unit Ameri power plants that were procured by the Mahama administration between 2013 and 2015.

According to the Yapei-Kusawgu lawmaker, the government, having failed to achieve anything meaningful in the Energy sector, has “done the unthinkable by rebranding the Ameri plant procured under the able leadership of former President John Dramani Mahama under a new name called Kumasi 1 Thermal Plant (K1TPP).”

“All in a desperate attempt to deceive Ghanaians,” he stated. Mr. Jinapor further explained, “The Ameri Power Plants, made up of 10 units, each with a total capacity of 250 megawatts, is a modular and versatile plant allowing for flexibility to generate power even with limited gas supply.” “The only thing the Akufo-Addo administration has done is to relocate the units to Kumasi in Ashanti, and as if this is not enough, they have gone a step further by deciding to recommission the same plants 17th April 2024, interestingly, this same plant was commissioned under President Mahama.” “This attempt to appropriate achievements of President Mahama and present them as that of this non-performing government will no longer be countenanced,” he wrote. However, the government has yet to comment on the development.
