The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a stern warning to Heads of Senior High and Technical Schools against the unauthorised registration of candidates for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), cautioning that violators will face strict sanctions.
In a public notice reported by Metro TV, the Service expressed concern over the growing practice of some school heads “illegally registering Form Two students and/or private candidates for WASSCE, often in exchange for fees.” GES emphasised that such conduct breaches the official procedures governing the examination. The Service clarified that only final-year students, whose academic progression can be duly verified, are eligible for registration by school authorities
“Management wishes to state unequivocally that a Head of School is authorised to register only Form Three students, whose academic records and progression from year 1 to year 3 are traceable in the school’s database,” the statement said. GES further emphasised that “the registration of Form Two students or private candidates by any school official is strictly prohibited.”
The Service described the practice as a serious offence, especially where money is involved, noting that it amounts to a breach of professional ethics. “Any Head or school official found to be involved in such unauthorised registrations, including the charging of monies for this purpose, is engaging in misconduct and abuse of office,” the release warned.
GES has therefore cautioned all heads and school officials to strictly comply with the directive, insisting that there will be no exemptions. “All Heads and school officials are hereby cautioned that the breach of this directive will attract severe sanctions in accordance with GES and WAEC regulations, without exception,” it added.
