Ghanaian singer and songwriter Efya Nokturnal has called upon citizens to unite and work towards achieving better governance in the country. She emphasized that complacency with the current hardship would only get worse with time if the situation. Speaking on TV3 Ghana’s X Spaces, dubbed “What we know so far – #OccupyJulorbiHouse” which discussed the happenings on the first day of a demonstration by aggrieved Ghanaians demanding a better standard of living, the singer passionately called on Ghanaians to unite and strive for improved governance, emphasising that Ghana is the only homeland.
“Ghana is my home, Ghana is our home. I don’t have anywhere to go. So if this is how we are going to fight, we need to actually come together. Everybody should put their pride aside and actually know that it is something that is important for all of us to realize that if we don’t do something about it, we are basically ‘doomed’ and it’s very detrimental that everyone puts every kind of misunderstandings they have with each other and realize that anybody that is doing something to help is doing it for our future”. She stated.
The singer went on to implore citizens to utilize their abilities and resources to contribute in any way possible to the cause. She also expressed her gratitude to those who had already dedicated their resources to the fight.
Efya stated: “I will like to implore everybody to put their hands down and do their best in theory own little way or in any big way. If you have to tweet about it, if you have to talk about it on your radio stations, if you have to write about it in the papers, if you have to write about it in your WhatsApp groups, it’s time. Thank you very much and God bless everyone that was able to contribute in their own way, Tomorrow, we go again. Amen.”
The three-day demonstration named #OccupyJulorbiHouse which sought to occupy the Jubilee House in a bid to protest economic hardship on the first day saw the arrest of protesters by the Ghana Police Service stating it was an unlawful protest.
The conveyors are however confident of continuing the demonstration on the second day, September 22 as well as the third day starting from the 37 bus station to the Jubilee House.
