Dominic Ayine, the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, has announced that the government plans to revoke the controversial Legislative Instrument (LI) 2462, which has been widely debated both publicly and politically. During a stakeholder engagement on illegal mining held in Accra on Friday, October 3, convened by President John Dramani Mahama, Dr. Ayine revealed that a new instrument, LI 2505, has been prepared by his office and is scheduled to be presented to Parliament on October 14 when the House resumes its sessions.
“We have prepared LI 2505 in my office, and it will be laid before Parliament on the 14th of October,” he stated. The Attorney General confirmed that this decision was made in agreement with the sector Minister, and its purpose is to formally revoke LI 2462. “The Minister and I have agreed that on October 14, when Parliament resumes, we will lay the instrument to revoke the well-known LI 2462,” he added.
