The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has announced the arrest of a major figure in the local drug trade following a large-scale operation in Buduburam and nearby communities within the Gomoa East Municipality of the Central Region on Friday, 16 January 2026.

The suspect, 32-year-old Rebecca Afia Naa Dei Kotei—popularly known as “Mother”—has long been considered a central player in illicit drug activities. Local leaders describe her as a notorious figure who had repeatedly evaded arrest.

The raid, part of NACOC’s nationwide campaign against drug trafficking and abuse, led to the seizure of suspected cannabis, tramadol, and other controlled substances, along with items believed to be linked to drug distribution. Several other individuals engaged in drug-related activities were also detained.

NACOC confirmed that “Mother” had been under close surveillance due to her involvement in multiple trafficking operations. The Commission noted that it had received numerous complaints about the illegal activities of those now in custody. Officials stressed that all arrested persons will be processed for court in line with the law, while reaffirming NACOC’s commitment to achieving a drug-free Ghana.
