Make a difference in society – Justice Owusu-Dapaa

Dr. Ernest Justice Owusu Dapaa, a Justice of the Court of Appeal, has encouraged law students to take on their responsibility to positively impact society. Speaking passionately about the role of future legal practitioners, he emphasized the importance of grounding justice in compassion, truth, and reconciliation.

“You have a responsibility to make a difference in society,” Justice Owusu Dapaa affirmed at the grand iftar organised by the GSL Muslim Students Association on Friday March 28, urging the students to approach their careers with a sense of purpose. He highlighted the principle that “justice must be tempered with mercy,” advocating for a system that not only enforces accountability but also fosters healing and restoration.

The Justice further stressed the pursuit of truth as a foundational value for those in the legal profession. “You must always pursue the truth,” he told the aspiring lawyers, underscoring the critical role of integrity in building a fair and equitable society. In addition, he pointed out that forgiveness is a vital element of justice, stating, “Forgiveness is a necessary part of justice. Justice must not only punish but must also heal.”
