On Monday, March 24, President John Dramani Mahama swore in the newly appointed members of the Armed Forces Council. These appointees, chosen from a variety of professional backgrounds, will take on their responsibilities in accordance with the council’s mandate to provide policy direction and administrative oversight for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
The Armed Forces Council is tasked with ensuring the military operates efficiently, adheres to democratic principles, and remains accountable to the civilian government. This council advises the President on national defense matters and oversees the discipline and welfare of military personnel. Recent members of the council, who were sworn in by President Mahama, include notable individuals with considerable experience in governance, security, and public administration.
The members are Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the vice President, will serve as the Chairperson for the council. Other members include Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, Daniel Addo, Fuseini Iddrisu, and Nancy Dakwa Ampofo.
