Let our actions prove we’re ready for power – Afenyo-Markin to NPP

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to move past sympathy and concentrate on rebuilding the party after its defeat in the 2024 general election. Delivering a Christmas message to supporters on December 25, 2025, he reflected on the setback and emphasised the need to draw vital lessons from the outcome—chief among them, unity.

“My dear patriots, the time for sympathy is over; the time for action has begun,” he declared. He stressed that unity must be the foundation of the party’s future decisions, conduct, and internal dialogue. “As a party, we should have learned an important lesson, which is that unity is worth fighting for and sacrificing for. The pursuit of unity leads to victory. These lessons must now guide our conduct, choices and conversations,” he stated.

Mr Afenyo-Markin emphasised that the party now stands at a pivotal moment, with the determination of its members set to define the next stage of its progress. He also addressed persistent public doubts about the party’s preparedness for leadership, urging members to show maturity and discipline through deeds rather than rhetoric. “Time and again, questions have been raised about whether our party is truly ready for power. Let us provide a clear answer — and that answer is an emphatic yes, demonstrated not in words but in our actions and conduct,” he declared.

Looking ahead to the party’s upcoming flagbearer primaries, the Minority Leader appealed to party faithful to protect the NPP’s traditions and values. “Therefore, as we prepare for our upcoming flagbearer primaries, let us treat our party and its traditions as sacred. What our forebearers put together with their sweat and blood, let no party member put asunder,” he added.
