Kennedy Agyapong, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, has voiced strong concerns about security ahead of the party’s internal election slated for January 31, 2026, which will decide its candidate for the 2028 general polls. The former Assin Central MP cautioned that intelligence reports suggest attempts may be made to disrupt the process through intimidation or violence. He warned that any such actions would be met with firm resistance.
“No one can cow delegates with threats of violence,” Agyapong declared, urging vigilance and swift intervention to curb unlawful activities. He further stressed that all presidential aspirants share the responsibility of promptly alerting the appropriate authorities to any emerging security risks.
“Silence on these developments undermines the credibility of the party’s democratic processes and could heighten tensions ahead of the vote,” he said. Agyapong concluded by highlighting that the integrity of the NPP’s flagbearer election, and confidence in democratic competition more broadly, relies on immediate measures to ensure that intimidation, unauthorised force, or organised violence have no place in the process.
