Boakye Agyarko Addai Nimoh

A flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Francis Addai-Nimoh has said that he would not step down for Boakye Agyarko to be the 5th flagbearer aspirant. Addai-Nimoh and Mr Boakye Agyarko polled 9 votes each after the Saturday, August 26 super delegates conference of the NPP, resulting in a run-off between the two of them to determine who places 5th.

Vice President Dr Bawumia swept 629 of the votes (68.15%) followed by Kennedy Agyapong and Alan Kyerematen with 132 votes (14.3%) and 95 votes (10.29%) respectively.

Speaking on the Ghana Tonight show on TV3 on Monday, August 28, Mr Addai-Nimoh said “They [delegates] are human beings and so fear human beings.” Asked whether he would step down for Boakye Agyarko, he answered “Not at all, The rules are there, we are following the rules. The guidelines said should there be a tie there shall be a run-off.”

He further stated that in a way, he felt betrayed that he could not secure the number of votes to be part of the five aspirants who were voted for in the super delegates conference for the main internal elections on November 4.

“If you are looking for a certain number of votes and you didn’t get it, you can say betrayal.”
