Social activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has apologized to Parliament’s Appointments Committee for accusing them of soliciting money from ministerial nominees in exchange for their approval after the vetting process. During his appearance before the committee on Wednesday, January 29, Mr. Barker-Vormawor clarified that his comments were not meant to damage the committee’s reputation.
“I want to clarify that my post was not intended to disparage any member of the committee. I did not mean to imply that committee members received or demanded bribes from anyone. For this reason, I apologize,” he stated. However, he explained that a second post or news report presented by the committee was not authored by him. He noted that this post was made by a social media portal. He also agreed to the committee’s request to issue a disclaimer regarding that comment and to publicize his apology so that it receives the same attention as his initial post.
