Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe has unveiled plans to transform Terminal 2 of Kotoka International Airport into a multipurpose facility by constructing a concourse to link it with Terminal 3. Addressing the Public Accounts Committee on Tuesday, January 13, the minister noted that Terminal 3 frequently experiences congestion during peak travel periods, leading to discomfort for passengers, while Terminal 2 remains largely underutilized.
He emphasised that the proposed redevelopment is a priority government initiative slated for execution in 2026. According to the minister, once completed, Terminal 2 will serve both domestic and international passengers, a move he said will significantly improve comfort and ease of travel at the airport.
“We often face heavy congestion at Terminal 3 during evening peak hours, while Terminal 2 remains relatively underutilised. The plan is to construct a connecting concourse between the two terminals to ease passenger movement and allow Terminal 2 to share international traffic with Terminal 3. This is a high-priority government project aimed at enhancing comfort for international travelers. Once completed, Terminal 2 will serve as a multipurpose facility, accommodating both domestic and international passengers,” he explained.
