A collision between two Granbird buses at Duapompo on the Kumasi-Accra Highway late Sunday night left 67 people injured. According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the crash occurred around 10:31 p.m. on August 30, 2026. A VIP Granbird (GW-5373-23), owned by Chairman ION and driven by Simon Azuma, ran into a KN KIA Granbird (AK-980-26), owned by KOD Transport and driven by Francis Yeboah. With 34 passengers aboard each vehicle, a total of 68 people were involved in the incident.
By the time firefighters arrived, members of the public had rescued 67 injured passengers, who were then rushed to the Konongo Government Hospital. The driver of the VIP bus remained trapped until GNFS personnel used specialised hydraulic rescue tools—employing a dashboard roll technique with a spreader—to free him. He was transported to the hospital via an ambulance registered as GV 589-20.
The collision damaged the front cowl of the VIP bus and the rear section of the KN KIA Granbird. The GNFS has not yet established the cause of the accident. It said investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to the collision.
