With just days until the 2025 Budget Presentation on March 11, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson is seeking input from everyday Ghanaians, especially traders and informal workers, regarding their expectations from the government. On March 7, Dr. Forson visited Makola Market in Accra, where he engaged with market women, head porters (referred to as kayayei), and traders. Many expressed their concerns about the increasing costs of doing business, high taxes, and the negative impact of the cedi’s instability on their livelihoods.
“It was a privilege to interact with these hardworking Ghanaians who break their backs daily to support our economy,” he said after the visit. “Their expectations ahead of #Budget2025 will help shape our shared future.” Beyond these face-to-face meetings, the minister has taken to social media to widen the conversation.
He is expected to host a live X Spaces discussion today, March 9 where Ghanaians can share their views ahead of the budget. “This budget is about shaping a stronger future for all, let’s talk about what matters most to you!” he posted, urging citizens to join the discussion. The 2025 budget is expected to address key concerns such as the cost of living, unemployment, and support for small businesses. outlined in the budget.
