Era of political “lip service” over – Adjei Mensah Korsah

The Ranking Member of Parliament’s Works and Housing Committee, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, has insisted that the era of political lip service must end, urging governments to move beyond rhetoric and take decisive action to tackle Ghana’s housing crisis.

Explaining his remarks on “political lip service,” the legislator noted that public officials often fail to deliver on promises made during campaigns and official engagements. Speaking on Metro TV’s Home Owners Show with Hanna Atiase on Saturday, May 16, 2026, Mr. Korsah cited a rental assistance initiative which, he argued, fell short of providing meaningful relief, particularly for students.

“It is not enough to acknowledge a challenge and pledge feasible solutions, only to abandon them later,” he stated. He emphasised that the government must assume greater responsibility in easing the accommodation burden on citizens to mitigate the strain caused by rising rent costs.

He argued that relieving citizens of rent-related stress would enable them to build wealth and improve their living conditions. “The government has to take the burden of rent off the shoulders of citizens. This can help people accumulate wealth and also support others,” he said.
