The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, advised Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate to the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to adhere to the instructions of the NPP flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. During a brief ceremony at Manhyia for the introduction of Dr. Opoku Prempeh to Asantehene, he indicated that Dr. Bawumia should not regret choosing him (Opoku Prempeh) as his running mate. “I have watched Opoku Prempeh grow. Don’t let Dr. Bawumia regret choosing you. Serve with humility,” Otumfuo Osei Tutu advised Dr. Opoku Prempeh.
Asantehene also entreated the Vice President never to hesitate to knock on his door whenever the outgoing Energy Minister goes wrong. “Whatever mistake comes let me know so I correct him,” Otumfuo stated. The National Council of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has approved their flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s decision to select Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as his running mate for the impending 2024 General elections. This endorsement for the Vice President followed meetings with the National Executive Council and the National Steering Committee of the party, and it was officially announced on Thursday.
In his acceptance statement, the Manhyia South lawmaker stated that he would support Dr. Bawumia in order to achieve ‘breaking the 8’ agenda “As I assume the role of running mate alongside my esteemed boss, H.E. Dr. Bawumia, I am committed to supporting him to prosecute a formidable 2024 campaign to break the 8-year election cycle and serve our beloved country diligently. Let us work together towards a brighter future for Ghana,” NAPO stated.
