The Minister for Works, Housing, and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has assured that the Daboase Water Treatment Plant will be completed by May 2026, raising hopes of a more reliable water supply for residents of Sekondi-Takoradi. Mr. Adjei gave the assurance after inspecting the project site alongside Ghana Water Limited’s Managing Director, Adam Mutawakilu. He noted that construction is progressing steadily despite minor challenges. “We have the Sekondi Water Project, which so far is going on smoothly.

They are not behind schedule as such. There are a few challenges that the government is working out for them; the project can be finished by May 2026,” he said. He emphasised that the plant’s completion would provide much-needed relief to residents who have long endured persistent water supply difficulties.

“The residents can be assured that very soon their taps will flow,” the Minister added. Project Manager of Strabag, Vlad Falup, who is overseeing the expansion of the Daboase Water Treatment Plant, explained during the briefing that a new chamber has been introduced at the facility to remove sediments from polluted raw water without the use of chemicals—significantly reducing the overall chemical load in the treatment process.
The sod-cutting for the expansion project took place in late 2024, and once completed, the plant is expected to boost production by an additional 22 million gallons per day, ensuring a more consistent water supply to Sekondi-Takoradi and surrounding communities.
The Daboase Water Treatment Plant relies on raw water from the Pra River, but years of galamsey-related pollution and deterioration of the old facility have increased treatment costs and reduced efficiency. The expansion, incorporating new technology, is designed to address these challenges and restore reliability.
