The Ghana Adventist Health Services, under the Seventh‑day Adventist (SDA) Church, has declared its readiness to collaborate with the government in completing and operationalising selected Agenda 111 health projects. This commitment was conveyed during a meeting between a delegation led by Dr. James Antwi and the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.
The delegation presented a proposal encompassing trauma care, holistic wellness, oncology and cancer treatment, rehabilitation, and other specialised services. The SDA emphasised that the partnership would prioritise strengthening healthcare delivery in underserved communities.
Welcoming the proposal, Mr. Akandoh noted that the government alone cannot meet the growing demands of the health sector. He urged faith‑based organisations, including the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), as well as private sector stakeholders, to support the completion and operationalisation of Agenda 111 facilities. He clarified that such partnerships would involve direct support in completing the facilities rather than financial contributions to the government.
The Minister further disclosed plans to construct six regional hospitals in the newly created regions, underscoring the government’s commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare nationwide. He said three of the hospitals are expected to be constructed this year, with the remaining three scheduled for 2027.
Mr Akandoh further announced that the government is constructing two cardiology centres, one in Tamale and another at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. He said a cardiac catheterisation laboratory at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital had also been installed and commissioned by President John Dramani Mahama.
The minister stated that the recent developments are part of broader efforts to enhance access to specialised healthcare. He also underscored three government initiatives aimed at advancing the country’s goal of achieving Universal Health Coverage by 2030.
These initiatives include the Free Primary Healthcare initiative, the uncapping of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), and the creation of the Ghana Medical Care Trust Fund. The collaboration between the SDA and the Health Ministry is anticipated to strengthen the partnership between the government and faith-based health providers, thereby expanding healthcare services throughout the country.
