The World Bank has projected a sharp decline in global cocoa prices, estimating a drop of more than 50 percent in 2026. According to the latest Commodity Markets Outlook, cocoa prices, which have surged in recent years, are expected to fall from about US$7.80 per kilogram in 2025 to roughly US$3.80 per kilogram in 2026—a 51.3 percent decrease. Prices are, however, forecast to recover slightly to around US$4.20 per kilogram in 2027.
The report attributes the anticipated decline to a recovery in global supply following severe shortages that pushed prices upward over the past two years. This projection, contained in the April 2026 edition of the Commodity Markets Outlook, also signals a broader easing in beverage commodity prices. The beverage price index, which covers cocoa and coffee, is expected to record a significant decline in 2026.
