The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has rescued 110 individuals from a suspected Qnet scam operation at Kuntunse Satellite in the Greater Accra Region. The victims, who are nationals of Cameroon and Ivory Coast, were reportedly enticed to Ghana with promises of well-paying jobs. Instead, upon their arrival, they faced exploitative conditions disguised as a network marketing scheme. The rescue took place during an early morning operation after several weeks of police surveillance and intelligence gathering.
The victims have been placed under protective custody while investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible and dismantle the network involved. Police sources indicate that preliminary evidence points to the suspects using Qnet—a controversial online business platform—as a front to lure and exploit unsuspecting individuals from other West African nations.
The CID has reaffirmed its dedication to combating human trafficking and transnational scams, advising the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent job offers, particularly those that demand upfront payments or are facilitated by unverified agents. Authorities report that efforts are in progress to track down and apprehend key members of the criminal organisation believed to be operating in multiple regions.
