Fifi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has launched a sharp criticism of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, labelling him the “epitome of deception.” Kwetey accused Bawumia of evading responsibility for Ghana’s economic decline. During an interview on Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Channel One TV, he questioned Dr. Bawumia’s credibility and effectiveness in his role as head of the Economic Management Team under the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
“Bawumia exemplifies deception, and that is the truth. Throughout his tenure, he seemed more focused on spinning narratives than on conveying the truth. He lacked the courage to admit that the economy was mismanaged under his watch. As the head of the Economic Management Team, his role was not merely symbolic; he was in charge,” Kwetey stated.
He went further to accuse Dr. Bawumia of shirking responsibility when Ghana’s economy began to falter. “When the moment came for the difficulties to be acknowledged, he ran away, pretended and said he was not in charge, it wasn’t him. That in itself tells you, you are not in leadership, you are a coward,” he said. Kwetey concluded his remarks by casting doubt on Dr. Bawumia’s fitness for higher office.
“You don’t have a sense of responsibility, you cannot take accountability, and if you don’t have these attributes, you dare not think of the leadership of any country. Because you are morally weak,” he added.
