Ban on noisemaking: La Council urges postponement of one week observance for Daddy Lumba at Legon Stadium

The La State Council has urged the family of the late highlife musician Daddy Lumba to consider postponing the one-week observance of his passing, scheduled for Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the University of Ghana Stadium. This request comes in light of a ban on noise-making in the La Traditional Area.

At a press conference held today in Accra, the La State Council addressed the media advertisements related to the event. They reminded the organizers that a ban on noise-making will come into effect on Monday, August 11, 2025, and is expected to last until September 5, 2025.

The La State Council expressed its condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and the entire nation for the loss of such a significant music icon. Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has left an undeniable legacy in the international music scene, and the La Homowo Planning Committee wishes to convey its deepest sympathies to all affected by his passing.

However, the Council wishes to firmly remind the general public that, effective Monday, 11th August 2025, a ban on noisemaking came into force across the entire La Traditional Area stretching from the main La township to Maalejor on the Dodowa road and Ayi Mensah at the foot of the Aburi mountains. Aside the general noisemaking, this ban also strictly prohibits funerals and all funeral-related activities of any kind. During this sacred period, Niimei would have entered the spiritual realm, and as such, no activity that contravenes the cultural and spiritual order will be tolerated.

The La State Council, therefore, cautions all persons, families, groups, and organizers against any attempt to hold or facilitate such funeral-related events within the La Traditional Area during the ban. Any such planned activity must be postponed, rescheduled, or cancelled outright.

Let it be clear that there will be no compromises in the enforcement of this directive. Our duty is to protect, uphold, and preserve the rich cultural heritage and sacred traditions passed down to us by our ancestors, and this will be done without fear or favor. The La State Council also warns that any individual or group who disregards this directive does so at their own risk and will face the full extent of customary and legal sanctions. For clarity, the ban will remain in full effect until Friday, September 5, 2025, at 6:00 PM. Once again, the Council expresses sympathy to the family of the late Daddy Lumba and assures them of La State’s support at the appropriate time when the ban is lifted.
