Arrest Afenyo-Markin, NAPO, Dubik Mahama over missing ECG containers – Gbande

Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy Director in charge of Operations at the Presidency, has called for the arrest of three individuals he believes are responsible for the disappearance of over 1,300 containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) at Tema Port. In an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Monday, March 31, Gbande demanded the immediate arrest of Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the former Board Chairman of ECG; Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the former Energy Minister; and Samuel Dubik Mahama, the former CEO of ECG.

The scandal, which has sent shockwaves throughout the country, involves the disappearance of crucial electrical equipment and materials meant for national power distribution. Reports indicate that the missing containers were shipped to Ghana to support the operations of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) but vanished under suspicious circumstances. The issue first came to light through a report revealing procurement irregularities and questionable transactions within ECG. It has also been alleged that some government officials and ECG executives were aware of the improper handling of the containers but failed to take any action.

Mustapha Gbande did not hold back in his demand for justice, stating that it was imperative for the three individuals to be held accountable for their roles in the scandal. “The Board Chairman, Afenyo-Markin now wants to run away from responsibility and it is in the interest of the country for him to be arrested immediately. “I am calling for the immediate arrest of Afenyo-Markin, Samuel Dubik Maham and Matthew Opoku Prempeh because we cannot continue to have these instances of corruption, and it is time for us to take action.”
