The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, stated that President Akufo-Addo has achieved more during his tenure than any other President in the history of Ghana. He mentioned that not even Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, has managed the nation better than President Akufo-Addo. Dr. Prempeh said, “In telling our history as Ghanaians, if Akufo-Addo retires, I can confidently declare that no president in our history has performed better than Akufo-Addo. From 1957 to date, you can mention Kwame Nkrumah and any other president, none of them have managed Ghana better than Akufo-Addo.”
“I say this with pride and with the fact that Akufo-Addo has performed better and surpassed all other presidents in our history. He has performed so well, so we don’t have to allow what occurred in 2008 to repeat itself. Chairman Wontumi said this, and I want to reiterate it. We cannot allow what happened in 2008 to repeat itself”, the outgoing Energy Minister disclosed at the Kumasi Jubilee Park during his unveiling.
He urged the supporters of the NPP party to work hard for the party to win the upcoming election in order to safeguard President Akufo-Addo’s legacy. “It would be wise for Akufo-Addo to finish his term and transfer power to Dr. Bawumia. Dr. Bawumia will continue to build on Akufo-Addo’s work. If you are a young person, you should take what I am saying seriously. Let’s preserve the progress and the legacy of Akufo-Addo,” stated Dr. Opoku Prempeh.
However, the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has told the running mate to the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh to adhere to the instruction of the flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Addressing a brief ceremony at Manhyia for the introduction of Dr. Opoku Prempeh to him, Asantehene indicated that Dr. Bawumia should not regret choosing him (Opoku Prempeh) as his running mate.
“I have watched Opoku Prempeh grow. Don’t let Dr. Bawumia regret choosing you. Serve with humility”, Otumfuo Osei Tutu advised Dr Opoku Prempeh. Asantehene also entreated the Vice President never to hesitate to knock on his door whenever the outgoing Energy Minister goes wrong. “Whatever mistake comes let me know so I correct him,” Otumfuo stated.
