The National Service Authority (NSA) has assured thousands of service personnel that their delayed allowances will be disbursed by the end of this week. The Authority explained that the current delay stems from an ongoing verification process being conducted by the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Limited, which is necessary “to ensure accuracy and financial integrity.” In a statement dated February 17, 2026, and signed by Director-General Ruth Dela Seddoh, the NSA reaffirmed its commitment to promptly settling outstanding allowances, recognising their importance in supporting young Ghanaians during their mandatory service year.
“Management of the National Service Authority wishes to assure all National Service Personnel and stakeholders that concrete steps are being taken to expedite the payment of outstanding allowances owed to legitimate Service Personnel,” the statement emphasised, striking a tone of urgency and reassurance.
The Authority sought to clarify the specific bottleneck responsible for the delays that have left many service personnel in a state of financial uncertainty. According to the statement, the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department advanced funds for disbursement last week, sufficient to cover two months of allowances. However, the payment process has been temporarily stalled by a necessary verification procedure.
Management clarified that the delay is the result of an ongoing verification exercise by the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Limited, which must be completed to guarantee accuracy and financial integrity before disbursements are made. The statement drew a clear distinction between the availability of funds and the technical checks required prior to distribution.
It further acknowledged the patience and resilience shown by Service Personnel during this period, stressing that their contribution to national service remains deeply valued and appreciated, despite the difficult circumstances many young graduates face in relying on these allowances for daily sustenance. The most definitive assurance came in the form of a firm deadline: “Management is committed to clearing all verified and legitimate arrears by the close of this week,” the statement affirmed, offering personnel a specific timeframe within which they can expect payment.
The Authority also pledged to maintain open lines of communication with affected personnel, promising that timely updates would be provided through official channels. “We will continue to provide timely updates through our official communication channels to keep personnel fully informed,” the statement concluded.
The development comes as welcome news to thousands of national service personnel across the country who have been grappling with the financial strain of delayed stipends, which serve as a crucial lifeline during their year of mandatory national service.
