Root out corruption from Police Service – Mahama to Yohuno

President John Dramani Mahama has stressed the urgent need to eliminate corruption within the Ghana Police Service, calling for greater transparency and accountability in law enforcement. Speaking after swearing in the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, at the Jubilee House in Accra on Friday, President Mahama underscored the damaging effects of corruption on justice and public trust.

“Mr. IGP, your role will also involve rooting out corruption within the service,” he stated. The President emphasized that unethical practices within the police force erode public confidence and weaken the foundation of the justice system. “Corruption in law enforcement undermines justice and weakens public confidence in our security agencies,” he added.

He urged the new IGP to take decisive action against all forms of misconduct, from bribery to abuse of power, ensuring that officers uphold integrity in their duties. “It is crucial that all forms of unethical behavior, from bribery to the abuse of power, are decisively dealt with,” he said.

Mahama further highlighted the need for a transparent and accountable police service that prioritizes the interests of the public, reinforcing the government’s commitment to strengthening law enforcement institutions.
