28 Ghanaians rescued from human trafficking network in Ivory Coast

Twenty-eight Ghanaians, most of them young people, have been rescued from a human trafficking ring in Ivory Coast and safely repatriated, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ministry reported that the victims returned to Ghana on Saturday following a coordinated effort between Ghanaian officials in Abidjan and Ivorian security forces.

In its statement, the ministry labelled the trafficking operation as a sophisticated criminal network and noted that the rescued individuals are now assisting with investigations. The government commended Ivorian authorities for their collaboration and intelligence sharing throughout the process. Officials have cautioned the public to be wary of fraudulent travel and job offers, particularly those from unlicensed recruitment agencies.

The ministry encouraged Ghanaians to verify any employment or travel opportunities with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Relations, or Ghana’s diplomatic missions abroad before making commitments. Authorities said they are continuing efforts to dismantle the trafficking network and prosecute those responsible, emphasising that the welfare and protection of Ghanaians remains a top priority.
