On Monday, August 18, 2025, Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang held a high-level meeting with the leadership of the Ghana Prisons Service, led by Director-General Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the challenges facing the Service and explore ways to address those issues.

The Vice President emphasised the importance of strengthening public education on prison reforms and urged closer collaboration with state agencies and the media to enhance public understanding and support. She commended the Service for its ongoing initiatives, particularly its promising campaign in agriculture, which she described as a vital step toward sustainability and rehabilitation.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving conditions within the country’s prisons, stressing the need for reforms that prioritise both dignity and reintegration. “As a responsible nation, it is our duty to ensure dignified conditions for inmates, to offer meaningful reforms, and to provide the necessary support for their reintegration into society,” she stated.
