The U.S. Embassy in Accra has announced the immediate release of over 1,000 non-immigrant visa appointment slots, giving prospective travellers the chance to secure interview dates within the coming week. A large number of B1/B2 visa appointments — intended for business and tourism purposes — are currently available, and applicants are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity. This initiative is part of broader U.S. preparations to support increased travel ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
In a notice shared on Facebook on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, the embassy urged individuals planning to apply for a U.S. visa to book their interviews promptly. “There are more than 1,000 B1/B2 visa appointment slots available in the next week – one of those could be yours,” the statement read. Applicants with later appointments have also been advised to reschedule for an earlier date if convenient.
“Book a new appointment – or move up one scheduled for later in the year – we want to interview you now!” the Embassy added. Prospective applicants have been directed to visit the Embassy’s official visa page for detailed information on requirements and the application process. The announcement is expected to ease concerns among travellers who have experienced longer waiting periods for interview dates in recent months.
