Samuel Nartey George, the Minister nominee for Communications, Digitalisation, and Innovation, has issued a warning to Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) that do not meet the required quality standards. During his vetting by the Appointments Committee on Thursday, January 30, Mr. George emphasized his dedication to ensuring that telecommunications companies deliver reliable and efficient services to the people of Ghana. He stated that those who fail to comply will face sanctions, including fines.
He stressed that while the government would support MNOs in improving their infrastructure, there would be consequences for substandard service delivery. “I will not be a minister who’ll be afraid to impose a fine when MNOs fail to provide the quality of services required, as well as we support them in doing so,” he stated. He reaffirmed his determination to hold service providers accountable while fostering an environment that promotes technological advancement and innovation in the country’s digital sector.
