Joseph Osei-Owusu, the former First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) committee reviewing the party’s constitution to prioritize discussions on the leadership selection process. He highlighted the importance of achieving a consensus on this crucial issue to enhance the party’s unity and future direction.
During a segment on Channel One Newsroom on Thursday, April 17, Osei-Owusu highlighted that the process of selecting leadership has become a crucial topic in the committee’s discussions. He stated, “For me, the most critical issue right now is achieving consensus on the way forward. The key point, if you ask me, is how we select our leaders.” Osei-Owusu emphasised that reaching an agreement on this matter would lay a strong foundation for the party’s future. He added that the method by which they reach this consensus is less important than the outcome itself, saying, “It doesn’t matter how we get to that. Once we reach a consensus, we will use it to build our party and advance.”
The NPP on Wednesday, April 16, formed a nine-member committee to review its constitution, following the presentation of a post election report by the Oquaye Committee on the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections. The decision was taken during an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
