The Western Regional Police Command has apprehended five suspects in relation to the robbery and murder of 40-year-old gold buyer Seth Kobina at Agona Fie, near Agona Nkwanta in the Western Region. On August 20, 2026, around 8:00 p.m., armed men stormed a gold buying shop and shot the owner in the chest. He was transported to Agona Nkwanta Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Initial investigations, including a review of CCTV footage, identified Emmanuel Amponsah, also known as “Vandam,” aged 29, as the alleged ringleader. Amponsah was arrested the following day at a guest house in Agona Nkwanta, where police recovered a locally manufactured pistol and two live BB cartridges during a search.
However, he fell ill, was taken to Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, and was pronounced dead on arrival. Further police investigations led to the arrest of Christopher Seyiri, alias “Cross and Die,” 47; Bashiru Ibrahim, 20; and Thomas Odoom, alias “Wale,” 30, all within the Agona Nkwanta area.
Another suspect, Isaac Quayeson alias “Last Burial”, was arrested at Denkyira Kwaboso in the Western North Region. A search of his residence led to the recovery of a locally manufactured pistol, three live BB cartridges, a metal bar and two cutlasses.
During investigations, suspect Quayeson identified suspect Amponsah as the person who shot and killed the deceased and also identified suspect Odoom as one of the suspects captured in the CCTV footage. The suspects are assisting with investigations, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other accomplices connected to the robbery and murder.
