Abraham Amaliba, the Acting Director General of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), has called on Okada and Pragyia riders to adhere to road traffic regulations. He warned that the police will arrest and prosecute those who violate these rules. Amaliba also mentioned that the NRSA plans to provide training on road safety for all riders. Additionally, he stated that riders will be required to wear uniforms and helmets before the DVLA issues specialized license plates for their motorcycles.
While addressing the Koforidua branch of the Tricycle Operators Association in efforts to reduce accidents in the region, Amaliba mentioned that discussions are ongoing about forming unions for registration. “Legalization will come with certain restrictions. It will not be a free-for-all as it is now. We will provide training on road safety since many of you have acquired a motorbike and are starting to ride without proper knowledge. It is essential to ensure that you are trained in road safety.”
“We will prescribe a uniform for you, and we will prescribe a particular helmet for you. Then DVLA will give you a special number plate, and they will also train you on how to ride. The police would begin to arrest some of you if you fail to obey the road traffic regulations.”
