NPP flagbearer aspirants sign peace pact ahead of Jan 31 primary

The five presidential hopefuls of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have formally endorsed a peace pact ahead of the party’s presidential primary slated for January 31, 2026. The agreement was signed during a ceremony in Accra on Thursday, January 22, 2026, with the aim of safeguarding a calm, transparent, and credible electoral process. By appending their signatures, the aspirants pledged to uphold peace before, during, and after the polls.

At the event, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo emphasised the importance of unity, reminding members that the NPP transcends individual ambitions or factional interests. He urged aspirants and supporters alike to prioritise the collective good of the party. Joseph Osei Owusu further appealed to the candidates to respect the results of the January 31 primary and rally behind the eventual winner in the spirit of party cohesion.

Justin Frimpong Kodua, on his part, also appealed to the aspirants to unite after the election, stressing that cohesion within the party would be critical to securing victory in the 2028 general elections.

The ceremony drew the presence of several distinguished party leaders and stalwarts, among them former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Chairman of the NPP Elections Committee Joseph Osei Owusu, Chairman of the Council of Elders Hackman Owusu Agyemang, Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno, former Chief Justice Akosua Frema Osei Opare, and the party’s General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua.
