No fufu pounding after 6 pm – Oguaa Traditional Council

The Oguaa Traditional Council has issued a ban on noise-making, which will be effective from Tuesday, August 6 to August 22, 2024. This ban is part of the activities for the Fetu Festival, which is celebrated annually in the first week of September by the people of Cape Coast in the Central Region.

The Fetu Festival marks a season of bumper harvest and serves as a thanksgiving to the 77 deities of the Oguaa Traditional Area. During the period of the ban, the council has set guidelines to honour the region’s cultural heritage and prepare for the Oguaa Fetu Afahye.

Within the period of the ban on noise-making, quarrelling within the traditional area, pounding of fufu after 6 pm, and playing of drums or loud music is prohibited. Additionally, there is a ban on loud wailing or mourning, fishing in the Fosu Lagoon is also banned until September 3, and no funeral activities until September 21, 2024. These measures are set to ensure a respectful and peaceful environment leading up to the festival.
