Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Founder and Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies, has commended President John Dramani Mahama for his leadership in launching the National Clean-up Exercise, describing it as a bold initiative to tackle Ghana’s sanitation challenges.
Mr. Agyepong stressed that strong leadership is vital for achieving lasting improvements in sanitation, noting that countries that have successfully maintained clean cities did so under leaders who made the issue a priority. Speaking on the opening day of the exercise, Friday, July 10, 2026, he emphasized that addressing sanitation requires both leadership commitment and public participation.
“Every country is shaped by the leader who drives it, and sanitation thrives under that leadership,” he remarked. He pointed to Dubai and Kigali as examples where determined leadership has transformed sanitation standards, underscoring the importance of political will in achieving similar outcomes.
Mr. Agyepong praised President Mahama for placing sanitation high on the national agenda, describing the clean-up campaign as a positive demonstration of leadership and a step toward a cleaner Ghana. “President Mahama is leading a very good cause, and we have to appreciate him for the bold step of leadership,” he said.
Mr. Siaw Agyepong said the private sector remained ready to support government efforts to improve sanitation across the country, adding that sustained commitment would be necessary to achieve cleaner communities.
The Jospong Group Executive Chairman also stressed that the success of the sanitation campaign would depend on citizens’ willingness to comply with sanitation regulations and support efforts to improve waste management systems. He said beyond clean-up exercises, Ghana needed stronger enforcement of sanitation laws and improved waste management infrastructure to ensure long-term results.
