No ban on AirPods, earphones while driving – Police clarify

The Ghana Police Service has urged the public to ignore a flyer circulating on social media that claims the use of AirPods, earphones, and other audio devices while driving or riding is prohibited by law. In a Facebook post on Tuesday, August 18, the Police stated that this flyer was not issued or authorized by their Service.

The Cybercrime Unit of the Police is currently working to identify those responsible for the publication. However, they cautioned motorists and other road users about engaging in activities or using devices that could distract them or hinder their attention, hearing, vehicle control, or awareness of surrounding traffic.

The Police advised motorists and motorcyclists to minimize distractions and exercise maximum caution while on the roads. They also encouraged road users to familiarize themselves with and comply with the Road Traffic Regulations, 2026 (L.I. 2519), as well as other applicable road traffic laws. Compliance with these regulations is essential for reducing road crashes and protecting lives.

Additionally, the Police recommended that the public rely on their official communication channels for accurate information regarding road traffic regulations and other public safety issues. They reiterated their commitment to enforcing road traffic laws fairly and professionally while collaborating with stakeholders to enhance road safety.
