The Amasaman High Court has reduced the 15-year prison sentence handed to controversial evangelist Nana Agradaa to 12 months, ruling that the initial punishment was unduly harsh. While upholding her conviction, the court exercised its discretion to vary the sentence, cutting it down from the 15 years of hard labour imposed by the trial court.
The revised term, effective from July 3, 2025—the date of her conviction—means she will serve a total of one year in prison. The court emphasised that although her offences merited punishment, the original sentence was disproportionate, warranting a downward adjustment.
Nana Agradaa, a former fetish priestess turned evangelist, was convicted of charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretence. She was found guilty of luring victims through a 2022 televised broadcast, during which she falsely claimed to possess spiritual powers capable of doubling money.
Her claims led several individuals to part with large sums of money in expectation of miraculous financial returns—promises that were never fulfilled.
