Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, the Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, has called for calm in Bawku following a recent surge of violence in the area. In a heartfelt message posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, July 28, he expressed concern over the ongoing unrest and extended condolences to the affected families. He stated, “We call for calm in Bawku. We pray for peace to prevail. Our sympathies to all bereaved families. Every life matters.”
His appeal comes amid reports of renewed attacks and escalating tensions within the municipality, which has long been troubled by chieftaincy-related disputes. The Assin South MP joins a growing number of voices advocating for restraint and dialogue to achieve lasting peace in the region. Local authorities, security agencies, and civil society groups have also expressed similar sentiments in recent days, especially as the violence has resulted in casualties and the displacement of residents.
Rev. Ntim Fordjour’s comments highlight the urgent need to prioritize human life and seek peaceful resolutions, particularly in communities that have been repeatedly affected by conflict.
