Kwaku Kwarteng, Member of Parliament for Obuasi West and a member of Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team, has expressed confidence that the NPP presidential aspirant has the capacity to address Ghana’s unemployment crisis if elected president. In an interview with Bernard Avle on Channel One TV’s The Point of View on Monday, January 26, Mr. Kwarteng acknowledged that both past and present leaders share responsibility for the country’s economic challenges. He therefore urged party delegates to vote decisively in favour of Mr. Agyapong during the upcoming presidential primary.
“Kennedy Agyapong takes some of the blame [for Ghana’s problems], I also take some of the blame, because I have been in the corridors of politics for quite some time. So, we all take a portion of the blame. “But are we going to continue to walk the path that has led us to our development partners 19th times if you add the structural adjustment programme and HIPC? Are we going to walk the same path that is churning out our youth in huge numbers on the streets without jobs?” he asked.
The NPP is scheduled to elect its presidential candidate on January 31, 2026. The aspirants in the race include Kennedy Agyapong, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Ing. Kwabena Agyepong, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Dr. Bryan Acheampong.
