The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that the government plans to eliminate the COVID-19 levy in its upcoming budget. Speaking to hundreds of Ghanaians living in Benin, the minister stated, “Only one more tax remains for the government to abolish in order to fulfill its promise of eliminating four taxes that were imposed by the previous administration.”
The audience erupted in applause and cheered as the Foreign Minister announced that the betting tax, E-Levy, and emissions tax had already been eliminated following the president’s approval of the bills on April 2. He also provided updates on developments in Ghana, encouraging the community to remain confident and trust that the Mahama administration will fulfill its commitments to the people. However, he emphasized that “the government is investing in the youth by allocating funds to meet their needs.”
