The Ministry of Health has announced that arrears owed to newly recruited nurses have been cleared, with two months of outstanding allowances fully paid. In a press release signed by the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Tony Goodman, on April 28, 2026, the payments were described as part of government’s commitment to improving conditions of service for health workers and ensuring the smooth integration of new personnel into the national health system.
“The Ministry further wishes to assure all affected personnel that the next payment will cover three months, from May to July 2026, as earlier indicated,” the statement noted. It also expressed appreciation to health workers for their patience and cooperation, adding that efforts are underway to strengthen the health workforce and enhance service delivery nationwide.
The Ministry also encouraged individuals facing challenges or seeking clarification to reach out to the Human Resource for Health Development Directorate for assistance. On recruitment, the Ministry disclosed that the government is working to absorb a total of about 16,000 health professionals this year. It noted that financial clearance has so far been secured for approximately 8,000 workers, with additional approvals being pursued.
According to the Ministry, no health worker will be recruited without confirmed financial clearance, stressing that the process is being implemented in phases across different health cadres to ensure orderly absorption into the system. The statement emphasised that recruitment is being conducted exclusively through the official recruitment portal to ensure transparency, fairness, and accountability.
However, the Ministry acknowledged that high application volumes have led to technical difficulties for some applicants, resulting in anxiety among prospective recruits. It assured that measures are being taken to address the challenges and secure further clearances to accommodate more qualified applicants.
